Below is a list of TSSA Requirements as per our understanding.

Registration:
Must be installed by a certified Petroleum Mechanic, Only certified Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) tanks can be used.
General Installation Regulations:
- Product ID must be displayed on 2 sides of tank
- Tanks must be on a solid base such as a concrete pad
- Tanks must be coated with a corrosion resistant finish
- Tanks must be equipped with proper fill and venting system
- Must be protected from vehicular impact
- Posts must be within 1350mm (54 in)
- Buried minimum of 900mm (36 in)
- Above grade by mininum of 750mm (30 in)
Posts must consist of one of the following:
- 100mm (4 in) capped steel pipe
- 100mm (4 in) tube filled with concrete
- 150mm (6 in) minimum dimension reinforced concrete post
Not more than 1350mm (54 in) apart
Gasoline Tanks
- 3m (10 ft.) from any building on the same property and property line
- 3m (10 ft.) from a highway
With pump:
- 4.5m (14ft 9in) from any opening in a building
- 1m (4ft 1 in) from any building
- 7.5m (24.5 ft.) from any fixed source of ignition
- Electrical hookups must comply with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
Diesel Tanks
- 0m (0ft) from any building on the same property and 3m (10 ft.) from property line
With pump:
- 4.5m (14ft 9in) from any opening in a building
- 1m (4ft 1 in) from any building
- 7.5m (24.5 ft.) from any fixed source of ignition
- Electrical hookups must comply with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code
Above ground tanks must be installed away from all water sources. The specs are as follows:
- 10m (50 ft,) from a drilled well
- 30m (100 ft.) from a dug well or water way
Diking and Secondary containment is only necessary if tank capacity is 5,000 liters or greater.
Note: The above capacity is subject to change, each person operating fuel pumps must be instructed on how to use the equipment, this must be documented.
